Free From Sin
Through baptism, you are made into a new being. The person who was ruled by sin no longer lives because we are now free of sin. By being baptized we died with Christ through His crucifixion and we are raised in His resurrection. We are now one with Christ. We died with Christ so now we will live with and for Him, always. Giving your life over to Christ and accepting Him as your Savior makes you born again. With these two acts in life you are made new, whole and full of grace. Grace is so important because by being under grace we can no longer be under the control of sin. Sin no longer has a hold of us. Grace gives us the relationship with God that we need.
We died to sin once we gave our life over to God. Sin has no authority over us anymore. Of course, we still get tempted by sin but now we have a way out; Christ. We should stay as far away from sin as we can so that we don't fall back into it. Rather, fully give yourself to God. Let Him use you as an instrument and direct your life. We went through that time in life where we were slaves to sin. It ruled our life. We did everything that was 'ever-increasing wickedness' and only led us to death. We now need to become slaves to righteousness so that we will be led to holiness and eternal life. What we are now ashamed of was only leading us to death. The price of sin is death and just because we are one with God doesn't mean we can expect forgiveness.
Christ died so that we can be forgiven, but His death has more meaning than that. We shouldn't sin just because we know that God will forgive us. I use to do this all the time. I struggled with one certain sin and every time I got tempted with it, I would tell myself (I now understand this was only the devil speaking to me), it's ok, because God will forgive me. By doing this, it just insults the price Jesus paid by dying on the cross for our sin. This also takes out the sincerity of repenting. Deliberately sinning is probably one of the greatest insults we can make toward Jesus. Jesus died so that we can be freed from sin. Not so that sin can have no effect on us. Sin is sin no matter how great or small you might think it is, Jesus still had to die so we can be forgiven. Never underestimate the size of a sin. Christ died for the liar just as much as He died for the murderer.
