1 John 4







We love because God first loved us. 1 John 4:19


God has really been working with me on loving people more. Getting the thought of 'enemies' out of my mind. I'm understanding more that 'God is love', so us as Christians should always show love as well. 

Everyone who loves, knows God; those who don't love, don't know God. God shows his perfect love through Him sending His only Son to die for you and me. However, God is the only one who can show you perfect love, it's made perfect for us. In a sense, we can be so deeply in love with our spouse or significant other and feel like that love is so great. So imagine what God's love for us is like. It's so much greater than we could ever imagine. If we have God in us, we will definitely be able to show others a greater love.
God lives in us through His Spirit. The Holy Spirit is described throughout the whole bible. I pulled one out of 1 Corinthians 2 (10-14). 

But God has shown us these things through the Spirit. The Spirit knows all things. The Spirit even knows the deep secrets of God. It is like this: No one knows the thoughts that another person has. Only the person’s spirit that lives inside knows those thoughts. It is the same with God. No one knows God’s thoughts except God’s Spirit. We received the Spirit that is from God, not the spirit of the world. We received God’s Spirit so that we can know all that God has given us. When we say this, we don’t use words taught to us by human wisdom. We use words taught to us by the Spirit. We use the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. People who do not have God’s Spirit do not accept the things that come from his Spirit. They think these things are foolish. They cannot understand them, because they can only be understood with the Spirit’s help. 1 Corinthians 2:10-14

The Spirit knows all things and lives within us, if we allow It. We receive God's Spirit so that we can know all that God has given to us. We use words taught to us by the Spirit(witnessing). Those who don't have the Spirit have not accepted the Spirit, therefore they think foolishly and don't understand. With that said, since we have the Spirit, It will live in us and we will be able to love, through God's love. 

If we have a true understanding of God's love and how perfect it is, who are we to fear the day when we will be judged by the Almighty? We should feel so confident, for we have God's love. 

Over the past couple of months I have been able to let go of anger and hate. I always avoided using the word 'hate' because God does not hate. I'm growing to show more people love. What kind of person am I showing people if I constantly am rude to certain people because I can't let the past go? The way I use to show hate, was not showing God's love. 
If we love God, we must also love His children, our brothers and sisters; not just in Christ but all. 

Showing God's love is a way to draw in others to Him. That's why it's so important! 
It's definitely something I will continue to work on and demonstrate. I'm starting to see how my love from God is helping others grow and come to know Christ. It's the most amazing feeling, knowing God is working through me!

The 'Traditional Family'

Tuesday while listening to Greg Laurie, he said something that really hit home and I began to feel sad, upset, hurt and even a little angry. This is what he said and I quote  "The idea of a traditional family seems to be something of the past. So many broken homes today... We have to visit dad and his new wife and we have to visit mom and her new boyfriend and I have all these new step brothers and sisters and the whole thing is sort of...icky. Uncomfortable. Awkward." -Greg Laurie  Well Pastor Greg, you hit that one spot on. Before he made that quote he addressed that there are broken home in the result of divorce. However, to be in that situation he described doesn't always have to be the result of a divorce. Who Are We?

I listened to a sermon on the 4th and I have been trying to put all my thoughts together to write a post about it because it was so meaningful for me. It helped me realize a lot about myself and my faith. I am still trying to get all my ducks in a row for that post but I just wanted to give a little bit of encouragement. It seems like most sermons preached lately are about this craziness but out of that craziness there is a lot to learn! In Exodus 13-16 we read about how Pharaoh finally let the Israelites out of Egypt. All the Isrealites wanted was to be let go and what was one of the first things they did when they got out of Egypt? They complained. They started complaining about how they 'missed' things from Egypt.  Exodus 16:3 says   The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the  Lord ’s hand in Egypt!  There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food  we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”
